Candles and Books

Shop: Thistle Farms

I love this organization because it benefits survivors of trauma. I’ve ordered candles, soaps, and ornaments from them in the past, but their bookshelf is also very interesting. Their products make awesome stocking stuffers! I also love the mission of Thistle Farms: For 25 years, Thistle Farms has lit a pathway of healing and hope for women survivors of trafficking, prostitution, and addiction.

Check out Thistle Farms and support small businesses!

A white soy blend candle from Thistle Farms with the phrase "Love Heals" printed on the front of the frosted glass container. The candle is lit, creating a warm glow. Behind the candle is the product box, which is white with a minimalist design featuring leaves and the text "Thistle Farms Three Trees Soy Blend Candle." The box also notes that the candle is hand-poured by a woman surviving trafficking and exploitation.

The Taproot Journal

Shop: Taproot Magazine

I love Taproot Journal! I often order single issues. The content is about home and hearth, including awesome recipes, knitting patterns, and natural remedies. It’s also run by Portland, ME locals.

The image shows three issues of "Taproot" magazine arranged in a fan-like layout on a gray surface. The magazine covers feature artistic illustrations. The central issue, "Issue 51 :: IMAGINE," has an illustration of hands holding a bouquet of red flowers. To the left, "Issue 31 :: REVIVE" displays abstract green foliage, and to the right, "Issue 44 :: EMERGE" features a colorful scene with animals, plants, and a rainbow. Below the magazines are several small spools of thread in various colors.

October, October by Katya Balen

Shop: Local Bookstores, Major Retailers, and Thrift Books

October, October by Katya Balen: one of the most beautiful and heartwarming/breaking middle grade novels I’ve ever read. If you love quiet novels set in the forest with subtle family dynamics and deep rooted magic, you will love this gift.

Check out October, October at ThriftBooks.com

Cover of the book 'October, October' by Katya Balen, illustrated by Angela Harding. The cover features an autumnal scene with a young girl walking by a lake, surrounded by golden trees. Above the girl, a large, detailed illustration of an owl spreads its wings across the sky. The title 'October, October' is written in bold, orange script in the center of the cover. A round, orange sticker on the right side indicates that the book is a winner of the Yoto Carnegie Medal. The overall style of the cover is reminiscent of woodcut illustrations, with intricate lines and textures that evoke a sense of nature and the changing seasons. The publisher, Bloomsbury, is noted at the bottom.
