Words Make Art Hoodie

Shop: Inked in Gray Press

This is the most comfy hoodie I have ever worn! I adore it, and it definitely gets me in the mood to write (or read!) It’s the perfect weight, and it’s so soft. There’s nothing like pulling up the hood and curling up in the corner of the library somewhere and writing more words.

The image shows a person wearing a light blue hoodie with the text "words make art" printed on the back. The words "words make" are in black, and the word "art" is in a gradient of rainbow colors. The person is facing away from the camera and has their right hand near their face, slightly pulling the hoodie.

Scrivener

Shop: Literature and Latte

I use Scrivener for all my writing because I can easily move scenes or chapters around as needed. It also keeps all my worldbuilding stuff right there, easily handy, so when I need to look something up, I’m less likely to lose my train of thought in the search.

Autocrit

Shop: Autocrit

AutoCrit is similar to ProWritingAid, in that it is a line editing tool primarily. I opted for it over PWA because it gives suggestions based on genre and similar authors, as well (which PWA has since added). It’s fantastic for catching areas where I can add more detail, as well repeated words or phrases and other readability things.

The Emotion Thesaurus

Shop: Amazon and Major Retailers

I find myself prone to using the same phrases or body parts for emotions, whether they be external (body language) or internal (visceral reactions). This book is amazing at helping me find more varied ways to show what my characters are feeling!

The cover features the title in large blue text against a black background at the top. Below the title, a collage of words related to emotions, such as 'anger,' 'shame,' and 'fear,' is displayed in a jumble of black and white text. A blue banner at the bottom of the cover announces that the second edition is 'Expanded to 130 entries.' The authors' names are written at the bottom in white text on the blue background. The cover is designed to appeal to writers looking for a comprehensive guide to expressing character emotions in their work.

Tot

Shop: Amazon & Major Retailers

Quick and easy notes program. It’s just a simple way to jot down ideas that occur to you, but with nothing flashy, with a simple interface so that it doesn’t get in your way while at the same time being usable across the Apple ecosystem (sadly, it’s Apple only). You can write down your writing idea/inspiration on your Apple watch or iPhone, and then move on to the next real life thing pulling at you—no need to grab your computer (though it also works on iPad and Mac). This is not a writer-specific tool but it might be nice!

Below the word 'Tot,' there is a row of six small, colorful dots in a gradient of yellow, orange, red, purple, blue, and green. Below the logo, the tagline reads 'Your tiny text companion' in light purple text. The overall design is sleek and visually appealing, with a focus on simplicity and color.

About S Kaeth

Ever since a college professor told S. Kaeth she’d have to eventually focus on just one thing, she’s been dead set on proving him wrong.

On life’s adventures, she traded outdoor ecology, tourism, and animal encounters for mammal training about the same time she got serious about her writing craft. You can find her teaching herself languages and lesser-known fiber crafts, hiking, or playing Capoeira when she’s not practicing the fine art of weaving a tale.

S Kaeth is the founder of IndieStoryGeek and one of the cofounders of the Indie Ink Awards.
